In a conversation with EU-Startups, co-founder and CEO Babak Parviz explains why the challenge in cognitive care is access, not efficacy, and why a licensed clinician stays at the center of every NewDays treatment plan.
Babak Parviz has spent his career building technology at the edge of what’s possible. He founded and led Google Glass at Google X, co-founded Google’s smart contact lens program, and built Amazon’s Grand Challenge, which took Amazon into healthcare. He could have taken on any problem next. He chose cognitive health, a field both NewDays co-founders know through their own families.
A need on the scale of a generation
One in three Americans over 65 lives with a serious cognitive condition: 11% with dementia and 22% with mild cognitive impairment. Babak told EU-Startups that biological research toward a cure should keep moving forward, but the people living with cognitive change today need care now.
The problem isn’t efficacy, it’s access
More than 300 randomized controlled trials show that non-drug treatments like cognitive training, cognitive rehabilitation and guided conversation can slow decline and improve quality of life. These interventions have been proven for years. They never reached most people because delivering them took years of one-on-one clinician time. Generative AI is what finally makes it possible to deliver a medically proven intervention at that scale.
Human-supervised by design
At NewDays, people meet with a licensed cognitive health clinician every two weeks and work daily with Sunny, our AI brain trainer, on exercises built around their goals. The AI takes on the repetitive, high-frequency work. The clinician designs the plan, oversees progress and stays accountable for care. Babak was clear that there’s no plan to take the human out of the loop. He sees this model, with AI assisting and an accountable clinician in charge, as the way medicine will increasingly be practiced.
Growing state by state
NewDays is live in Washington, California, Florida, Texas, New York and Nevada, and treatment is covered by Medicare. The company works with neurologists, caregiving organizations and senior living communities to reach people earlier. Babak also spoke about how state-by-state licensing affects telehealth care, and argued for rules that keep patient safety at the center without slowing access.
About NewDays
NewDays is a science-backed cognitive health treatment that combines expert therapy with frequent AI exercises, purpose-built for people experiencing cognitive change, mild cognitive impairment or dementia. At AAIC 2026, NewDays presented results showing that patients living with dementia kept about a year and a half of cognitive function compared with expected decline. See the AAIC poster →
